Setting Sail for a New Horizon

For wood is a living material. It creaks, it flexes, it carries the memory of the water, and above all, it demands the touch of a master to take its shape. Our magazine sets out with this exact philosophy. We believe that “knowledge is not merely rapidly consumed data, but a carefully crafted value.” In this publication, in contrast to the “plastic-wrapped” content of the modern age, you will find stories that still bear the scent of sawdust and the echoes of lived experiences.

Voyages often begin with a mere intention, but they find their true spirit at that very moment when the wind first meets the sail. As we prepared this magazine for publication, we did more than just gather pages; we built ourselves a “wooden ship.”

Last Harbor: The Quest for a Deeper Sanctuary

For minds weary of the steel, concrete, and the relentless pace of today’s world, we were searching for a slower, more tactile, and deeper harbor. Thus, “Last Harbor” magazine emerged as the fruit of this search. When you hold this magazine, we want the touch of your fingers on the paper to feel as though you are running your hand across the hull of a boat.

A Cultural Bridge: From the Heart of the Steppe to Global Shores

“Last Harbour” carries a distinct mission: to carry the melodies of our own harbors to distant shores. We wished for a world where Neşet Ertaş remains unknown to no one. We wanted the world to recognize “Neşet Baba”—who came to Germany to seek treatment for his ailing daughter and became a legend in every street, avenue, and village of Türkiye—and to witness the immense richness of his soul.

A Universal Vision

We aimed for a universal path in publishing. In 2013, while watching the colossal waves of the Indian Ocean on the shores of South Africa, I thought about how small lakes, seas, and streams truly were. Perhaps that is why continents and oceans felt so small to me then. We desired for this culture and this magazine to reach every harbor in the world.

Many of our friends poured their efforts into this inaugural issue. Our magazine has been published under the successful and devoted editorship of Ertuğrul Özgün and Hatice Dikbaş from Izmir. I sincerely hope that our English magazine, the product of great labor, serves as a vessel for beauty and inspiration.
